Making your own Historical Documentary with Windows Movie Maker

3. Making

Once you have edited to your heart's desire, it's time to put it all together and produce the actual video file! To do this, click on 'Save Movie File' in the 'File' menu. You should be presented with a box giving you several options regarding how you wish to save your movie file. We are interested in two for the purpose of this guide:

(i) Saving movie for playback on computer

(ii) Saving movie for playback on Internet

Using the default setting (as below) will give you the best quality playback possible. Press 'Next' and your file will be saved. This can take a while, so be patient!

Once your movie has finished saving, it's time to watch it. Congratulations, you've finished!

(ii) Saving movie for playback on Internet

If you wish to save your movie so that it can be 'streamed' over the Internet, then select 'The Web' option.

You will be asked to give a name for your movie.

You will then be asked how good the quality of video should be that you are saving. The better quality it is, the longer it takes to access over the Internet. Having said that, the 'Dial-up modem' and 'ISDN' options usually produce terrible results, so you should probably choose 'DSL, cable modem or higher (384 Kbps).

Once you press 'Next', your video will be saved. This can take a while, so be patient. Once it has been saved it can be uploaded to a web server by either yourself or someone who knows how to do this.

Congratulations, you've finished!
